Falling Into You 1996

'Falling Into You' is Celine's fourth English release and what critics have called her most adventurous album to date. Working with such producers as long-time colleague David Foster (Barbra Streisand, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, Neil Diamond), Jim Steinman (Meatloaf, Bonnie Tyler, Sisters Of Mercy), Humberto Gatica (Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Robert Palmer), Ric Wake (Taylor Dane, Mariah Carey), and the talented songwriter Jean-Jacques Goldman, Celine revisits familiar ground while venturing into new territory.

'Falling Into You' was recorded at the Hit Factory, Record Plant and Power Station in New York City as well as Mandeville Studios, Track Record Studios, Capitol Studios and Westlake Audio & Ocean Way Recording in Los Angeles. Additional material was also recorded at Compass Point studios in Nassau.

Lush ballads and love songs that have become her signature, a Motown classic and tons of strong material - Céline wouldn't have it any other way.

One of many focus tracks on 'Falling Into You' is the memorable and moving "Because You Loved Me." Written by Diane Warren, the composer of dozens of Top 10 singles, and produced by David Foster, with whom Celine has worked on every album since her 1990 Epic label debut, 'Unison,' this track contains all of the necessary elements for success. "Because You Loved Me" is the theme from the Miramax film, 'Up Close And Personal,' starring Robert Redford and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Among some of the featured musicians on 'Falling Into You' are Todd Rundgren, Fonzi Thorton, David Foster, Sheila E., Aldo Nova, and Ottmar Liebert. Of course, no Céline Dion album would be complete without such impassioned ballads as "Because You Loved Me" and her cover of Eric Carmen's 1975 hit, "All By Myself." In addition to contributions from Jim Steinman, Billy Steinberg, Diane Warren and Jean-Jacques Goldman, two Canadians, Dan Hill and Aldo Nova, also provided titles.

'Falling Into You' was a giant step in a remarkable career, featuring songs which reveal the full range of Celine Dion's vocal and interpretive skills.

Chart Success:
alling into You became one of Dion's two most successful albums, together with Let's Talk About Love. It remains one of the best-selling albums in history, and the second best-selling album by a female artist of all time (behind Shania Twain's Come on Over) with over 32 million copies sold worldwide.

In the U.S. it debuted at number 2 with 192,000 copies sold in its first week, and then remained at the top spot after reaching the number 1 position in its 31st week. The album's achievements are notable as it is one of only three albums to remain in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 for one full year (along with Michael Jackson's Thriller and Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette), spending 59 consecutive weeks in the top 10. Due to its incredible staying power in the album charts, it was the third best-selling album of 1996 and of 1997 in the U.S.. In the UK the album spent a total of 43 weeks in the top 10, selling more than 2.1 million copies, and has received a 7x platinum certification.

Falling into You was the album that kicked D'eux off the top of the French chart, staying at number 1 for five weeks and being certified diamond for more than 1 million copies sold. It was the second best-selling album in 1996 in France, while D'eux was the fourth and Live à Paris tenth, making Dion the only artist in history to have three number 1 albums and three albums in the tenth best-selling ones in a year-end chart in France.

In Canada, the album topped the chart for one week and stayed there for 112 weeks. It has also been certified diamond for more than 1 million copies sold.
